KENYA CONFIRMS FOUR MORE EBOLA CASES AS THREE HEALTH WORKERS TEST POSITIVE, TOTAL RISES TO SEVEN
Kenya has confirmed four additional cases of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease, bringing the national total to seven. The newly diagnosed patients include three healthcare workers who treated the country’s first Ebola patient and a close male relative of that patient. All four had already been placed in quarantine before developing symptoms, which authorities say has limited their opportunity to transmit the virus more widely. The Ministry of Health has traced and quarantined 128 of 130 identified contacts and says there is currently no evidence of sustained community transmission. Kenya’s outbreak is linked to the ongoing Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
