Ghana Post has announced a new School Box delivery service that will allow parents and guardians to send food and other essential supplies directly to students in senior high schools and tertiary institutions across the country.

The initiative is designed to make it easier for families to support students living away from home without having to personally travel to their schools to deliver supplies.

General Manager of Ghana Post Bernard Yaw Atta Sonno announced the service on Friday September 18 during an interview on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV.

The School Box service is expected to be officially launched on Tuesday September 22.

HOW THE SCHOOL BOX SERVICE WILL WORK

Under the initiative, parents and guardians will be able to visit a Ghana Post office and select a predetermined box provided for the service.

Customers can then fill the box with approved items they want delivered to a student.

Atta Sonno cited common food supplies such as shito and gari as examples of items parents could send.

Once the package has been prepared, Ghana Post will handle its delivery to the student's school.

The company says transportation will be included in the cost of the service, meaning customers will not have to arrange or pay separately for delivery after purchasing the School Box service.

TARGETING SHS AND TERTIARY STUDENTS

The service is being designed for students in senior high schools and tertiary institutions.

For many Ghanaian families with children attending boarding schools or studying far from home, sending food and other supplies can require long journeys or reliance on commercial transport operators.

Ghana Post hopes its nationwide infrastructure can provide parents with a more convenient alternative.

The company operates an extensive network of post offices across Ghana and already provides domestic courier and delivery services.

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

According to Atta Sonno, the initiative is not only about transporting packages.

Ghana Post believes the service can help parents maintain stronger connections with children living away from home by making it easier to regularly send them essential items.

Parents who are unable to physically visit their children's schools could instead prepare a package at a post office and have Ghana Post complete the delivery.

The service could be particularly useful for families whose children attend schools in different regions of the country.

The School Box initiative forms part of Ghana Post's broader transformation as the national postal operator expands beyond traditional mail services.

Ghana Post currently provides courier, financial and other postal services through its nationwide network.

The company has increasingly sought to position its infrastructure as a logistics and delivery network capable of serving changing consumer needs.

The School Box service extends that strategy into the education sector by creating a delivery product specifically designed around students and their families.

Further information on pricing, participating schools and detailed delivery procedures is expected as Ghana Post formally launches the service.
