LEGENDARY SCOOBY DOO VOICE ACTOR FRANCISCO RESÉNDEZ DIES AT 85
Veteran Mexican voice actor and dubbing director Francisco “Paco” Reséndez Novoa, whose work became part of the childhood memories of generations across Latin America, has died at the age of 85.
Reséndez, affectionately known within the industry as “Don Paco,” died on September 2, 2026.
News of his death became public the following day as colleagues, fans and members of the Latin American dubbing community began paying tribute to his remarkable career.
His family has not publicly announced a cause of death.
Born on July 10, 1941, Reséndez spent more than six decades working in the Mexican and Latin American dubbing industry.
A VOICE BEHIND SCOOBY DOO
For generations of Spanish speaking viewers, Reséndez became particularly associated with Scooby Doo.
He was one of the Latin American Spanish voices of the famous animated dog, appearing in productions including The Scooby Doo Show and The Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo Show.
His work also extended to animated films connected to the franchise during the 1980s.
His distinctive performance helped make the character familiar to millions of children who watched Scooby Doo in Spanish across Latin America.
THE MAN BEHIND THE LATIN AMERICAN SIMPSONS
Reséndez also played a major role behind the microphone.
He served as dubbing director for the first eight seasons of The Simpsons in Latin American Spanish, helping establish the voices and performances that became deeply associated with the series throughout the region.
His involvement began during the original casting process for the Latin American version of the show.
Reséndez previously recalled that the casting process took approximately three months as the production searched for the right Spanish voices for the characters.
His influence therefore extended far beyond the individual characters he personally voiced.
HIS WORK REACHED NEW GENERATIONS
Reséndez continued working as animation and anime introduced him to younger audiences.
Among his later recognised roles was Commander Dot Pixis in the Latin American Spanish version of Attack on Titan.
His career also included work across numerous television programmes, films and animated productions.
Beyond acting, Reséndez worked as a dubbing director, translator and adapter, helping transform international productions for Spanish speaking audiences.
His death marks the loss of one of the veteran figures of Mexican dubbing.
But the performances and productions he helped create continue to be watched by audiences around the world.
