Behind Kizz Daniel's recent silence was something far more painful than an album rollout.

The Nigerian Afrobeats star has revealed that the death of his mother was behind his decision to step away from music, opening up after a fan questioned why he had become less active.

The revelation came during an exchange on X after a fan suggested that the singer had probably been consumed by work on his forthcoming album.

“I guess the album really made you busy; you had to pause for a while,” the fan wrote.

Kizz Daniel responded with a much more personal explanation.

“My mom died, bro,” he said.

The brief response immediately changed the meaning surrounding the singer's absence.

What some fans had interpreted as another strategic break from the spotlight was, according to Kizz Daniel himself, connected to bereavement.

The disclosure is particularly poignant because the singer has previously spoken publicly about experiencing several devastating losses within his family.

In a 2025 interview discussing his Uncle K: Lemon Chase project, Kizz Daniel reflected on losing his father in 2015.

He also revealed that he and his partner lost one of their triplet sons shortly after birth in 2021 and spoke about other deaths within the family.

Against that background, his latest disclosure offers a more personal explanation for why one of Afrobeats' most prolific hitmakers was willing to step away from the studio.

It also adds another layer to comments he made last year about changing his relationship with music.

In June 2025, Kizz Daniel announced that he was taking a break from recording after his family complained that he was choosing the studio over spending time with them.

“No more recording for me,” he wrote at the time, saying he wanted to enjoy life and devote more attention to his family.

The singer joked that his family had “dissed” him for choosing the studio over them and said he was changing.

Those remarks initially presented his break as a conscious attempt to rebalance fame, work and family life.

His latest disclosure reveals that grief also became part of that story.

Despite stepping back, Kizz Daniel has not abandoned music.

Earlier this month, he released Owo Oluwa, an Afro-gospel-influenced collaboration featuring Young Jonn, Krizbeatz and Wave Choir.

The song centres heavily on gratitude, faith and divine protection, marking a noticeable shift from some of the dance-driven records that helped establish Kizz Daniel as one of Afrobeats' most commercially successful performers.

He is also preparing another major project.

His forthcoming album Radio Gidi is scheduled for release on October 16 and features collaborations with artistes from Nigeria and other international markets.

The announced guest list includes Shatta Wale, Tinie Tempah, Qing Madi and others.

That means Kizz Daniel's break was never necessarily a goodbye to music.

Instead, the singer appears to have withdrawn from the constant cycle of recording, promotion and public visibility while dealing with events in his private life.

Kizz Daniel has previously hinted that retirement remains somewhere in his future, although he suggested he has a substantial catalogue of unreleased material before that happens.

In 2025, he claimed he had more than 600 songs he wanted to release before eventually hanging up his boots.

For an artiste whose career has produced records including Woju, Mama, Buga, Cough, Twe Twe and numerous other hits, stepping away at the height of his career inevitably generated questions.

Now he has provided an answer.

And it was considerably more personal than another album, tour or music-industry strategy.
