After monitoring the situation, the Polish military said the operation had concluded and the air defense and radar systems had returned to their standard operational activities.
NO POLISH AIRSPACE VIOLATION DETECTED
The Polish Armed Forces said no violation of the country's airspace was recorded during the latest Russian attacks.
The military measures were preventive and designed to protect Polish territory while Russian aerial operations were taking place close to NATO's eastern frontier.
Poland shares a lengthy border with Ukraine and has repeatedly activated aircraft and air defense systems during large Russian missile and drone attacks.
The latest deployment did not mean Poland itself had been attacked.
Rather, the military raised its readiness because of Russian strikes taking place in neighboring Ukraine.
MILITARY AIRCRAFT SCRAMBLED
Poland's Operational Command said military aviation began operating in Polish airspace in response to Russian strikes involving jet powered unmanned aerial vehicles against Ukraine.
Ground based air defense and radar surveillance systems were also placed on alert.
The military described the measures as precautionary steps intended to secure Polish airspace, particularly areas close to locations potentially threatened by Russian aerial activity.
Once the immediate threat assessment changed, the additional measures were withdrawn and the systems returned to normal operations.
POLAND REMAINS ON HEIGHTENED ALERT
The precautionary response reflects the heightened security environment along NATO's eastern border as the war in Ukraine continues.
Poland has repeatedly scrambled military aircraft when Russian missile and drone attacks have approached western Ukraine.
Warsaw's forces monitor Russian aerial operations because missiles or drones can approach or cross borders during large attacks.
Similar precautionary measures have therefore become part of Poland's response whenever Russian strikes occur near its territory.
RECENT RUSSIAN ATTACKS HAVE TRIGGERED REPEATED ALERTS
The latest operation follows several recent instances in which Polish forces were placed on heightened readiness because of Russian attacks on western Ukraine.
On September 17, Poland also scrambled aircraft during a major Russian missile and drone attack against several Ukrainian regions.
That attack caused casualties and damage across Ukraine, while Poland temporarily restricted aviation activity as a precaution.
No Polish airspace violation was reported during that response either.
NATO'S EASTERN BORDER REMAINS SENSITIVE
Poland's position on NATO's eastern frontier has made developments in the air war over Ukraine a significant security concern for Warsaw.
The country has strengthened its air defense capabilities while coordinating closely with NATO allies.
Polish authorities have stressed that precautionary military deployments are intended to ensure that forces are prepared to respond quickly if an aerial threat approaches or enters Polish territory.
Saturday's operation ended without an airspace breach being detected, but the rapid activation of military aircraft, radar and air defense systems demonstrates the level of readiness being maintained along NATO's border with Ukraine.
