TRUMP-LED JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SUES TO BLOCK ALASKA SENATE RESULT IF REPUBLICAN INCUMBENT NARROWLY LOSES
The U.S. Justice Department has sued Alaska seeking to prevent certification of its November 3 Senate result if Republican incumbent Dan S. Sullivan narrowly loses and votes for another candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan could have affected the outcome. The department says the similar names create a voter-confusion problem, while Alaska courts previously allowed the second Sullivan to remain on the ballot. President Donald Trump said he personally directed the lawsuit. Election-law experts and Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski have criticized the legal action, while the federal court has yet to decide whether the Justice Department can obtain the relief it is seeking.
