U.S. CONGRESSMAN MOVES TO BLOCK NIGERIA’S PAID LOBBYING IN WASHINGTON OVER RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DISPUTE
U.S. Representative Barry Moore has introduced H.R. 10939, legislation seeking to prohibit compensated lobbying on behalf of the Nigerian government while Nigeria remains designated a Country of Particular Concern over religious freedom. The proposal comes after Abuja entered a lobbying arrangement worth up to $9 million with Washington-based DCI Group to communicate its security efforts and counter criticism over attacks on Christians. The bill is only at the introduction stage and has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee; it has not passed Congress and is not yet law.
