EUROPEAN BANKING GIANTS BEAT PROFIT EXPECTATIONS AS BNP PARIBAS ANNOUNCES €1.3 BILLION SHARE BUYBACK
Europe’s biggest banks have reported another strong quarter, with BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Santander and Standard Chartered beating profit expectations while UBS delivered results broadly in line with forecasts. BNP Paribas reported €3.46 billion in quarterly profit and announced a €1.3 billion share repurchase programme, while UBS accelerated its $3 billion buyback. Despite the strong earnings, investors remain concerned about government debt, economic weakness, high energy prices, inflation and geopolitical uncertainty.
