EGYPT HOSTS ERITREA, SUDAN AND SOMALIA LEADERS AS ETHIOPIA CRISIS DEEPENS
Egypt is hosting the leaders of Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia in New El Alamein for a four country consultative summit as tensions across the Horn of Africa continue to rise. President Abdel Fattah el Sisi will participate alongside Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al Burhan. Egypt’s presidency says the meeting will focus on consultation and coordination over regional issues of mutual interest. The summit comes amid renewed fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, diplomatic tensions between Ethiopia and neighboring states, and growing concern that the conflict could spread beyond Ethiopia’s borders.
