MACRON FACES FRESH STREET PRESSURE AS STUDENTS, UNIONS AND YELLOW VESTS MOBILISE ACROSS FRANCE OVER SOARING COSTS, PUBLIC SERVICES AND INEQUALITY
Students, trade union members and Yellow Vest activists are taking part in nationwide demonstrations across France over rising living costs, deteriorating public services and inequality. The mobilization grew out of weeks of student protests over teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and poor school facilities. Hundreds of actions were planned for October 17, with a heavy police presence deployed as authorities warned of possible violence. More than 900 police officers have been injured during recent unrest, while several serious injuries to young protesters have also triggered investigations into alleged police violence.
