GHANA BEGINS ENFORCING 15 YEAR LIMIT AND SAFETY RULES FOR USED VEHICLE IMPORTS,
Ghana has begun enforcing stricter standards for imported used vehicles from October 1, 2026, introducing pre shipment conformity checks and prohibiting the importation of vehicles more than 15 years old as well as vehicles with specified serious safety defects. Under the Ghana Standards Authority framework, used vehicles must comply with Ghana Standard 4510 before shipment. Importers are also required to work within a system under which vehicles are inspected in their country of origin and issued conformity documentation before being shipped to Ghana. The new enforcement regime does not amount to a general ban on used vehicle imports. Instead, the GSA says it is intended to prevent unsafe and substandard vehicles from entering the country while improving traceability and consumer protection.
