GOLDBOD DENIES SAMMY GYAMFI’S MINING PROPOSAL AMOUNTS TO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL OPERATORS
The Ghana Gold Board says Sammy Gyamfi’s proposal to formalize some unlicensed small-scale miners does not amount to an amnesty for galamsey operators. GoldBod spokesperson Prince Kwame Minkah says eligible miners would have to obtain the appropriate licenses, meet environmental safeguards, undergo training and operate under regulatory oversight. Critics warn that Gyamfi’s remarks could still be interpreted as permission to mine without authorization, while the EPA has clarified that unlicensed operations must stop until all required approvals are obtained.
