U.S. PULLS STAFF FROM SAUDI ARABIA AS INTELLIGENCE WARNS IRANIAN PLOTS AGAINST AMERICANS HAVE REACHED ‘ADVANCED STAGES’
The United States has ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia amid escalating attacks by Iran-aligned Houthis and heightened concerns about direct threats from Iran. An October 23 intelligence memo from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton says Tehran has substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel and that some lethal plots against American citizens have reached “advanced stages” in the Middle East and elsewhere. U.S. officials also say family members are being withdrawn from several other Gulf missions, while travel advisories and embassy security measures have been tightened across the region.
