POPE LEO’S DOCTORS SAY CANCER HAS NOT SPREAD AND NO FURTHER TREATMENT IS REQUIRED AFTER LUNG SURGERY
Pope Leo XIV will not require additional cancer therapy after final tests showed that the lung adenocarcinoma removed during his October 13 operation remained localised. Doctors removed the lower lobe of the 71-year-old pontiff’s right lung and subsequently conducted histological and molecular examinations of the tissue. The Vatican says an oncology assessment concluded that no further treatment is necessary. Leo was discharged from hospital on October 17 and returned to St Peter’s Square for his weekly General Audience on October 21.
