REAL MADRID APOLOGISES TO CHINA AFTER MBAPPÉ COMMENTS TRIGGER MAJOR BACKLASH
Real Madrid has formally apologised to the Chinese public following the backlash over Kylian Mbappé’s comments about an internet meme appearing to depict Mao Zedong. Mbappé had already apologised after acknowledging that his remarks were poorly judged and had upset people in China. At least three Chinese companies ended commercial relationships with him, while Chinese state television reportedly suspended coverage connected to Spanish football and the player. Real Madrid has now expressed regret and emphasised its respect for China, its culture and its supporters.
