TRUMP JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ESCALATES CALIFORNIA ELECTION PROBE WITH GRAND JURY SUBPOENAS
The U.S. Justice Department has issued new federal grand jury subpoenas to Los Angeles County election officials as part of a criminal investigation into alleged noncitizen voting. The subpoenas seek records about voter screening, suspected unlawful voting and the county’s response to earlier federal warnings. Los Angeles County says it follows established federal and state election law and argues that voter eligibility cannot be challenged on unverified data alone. Separately, a federal judge has rejected the administration’s request to immediately prevent California from counting ballots associated with more than 20,000 voters the Justice Department suspects may be noncitizens.
