GAUA STRIKE FORCES LEGON CALENDAR RESET AS UNIVERSITY OF GHANA FINALLY REOPENS OCTOBER 19 AFTER TWO-MONTH STANDOFF
The University of Ghana has fixed Monday, October 19, 2026, for students to report to campus after the Ghana Association of University Administrators suspended its nationwide strike following renewed negotiations with the government. GAUA says about 80 percent of its grievances have been addressed and has directed members to return to work on October 19. Freshers’ orientation at Legon will run from October 21 to October 23, while first-semester lectures will begin on October 26. The strike, which centred on disputes involving market premiums, allowances and conditions of service, forced the university to revise its earlier reopening arrangements and created uncertainty for thousands of students and parents.
