SOWORE RETURNS TO NIGERIA TO RESUME NATIONWIDE 2027 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has returned to Nigeria from the United States to resume his nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Sowore returned on Sunday, September 27, following a trip to the United States during which he held meetings with Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders.

According to Sowore, the discussions focused on Nigeria's political, social and economic situation as well as his campaign agenda for the 2027 election.

He said his return marks another phase of his nationwide political engagements as the presidential campaign gathers pace.

“I plan to engage workers, students, youths, women, farmers, traders, professionals and communities across the country,” Sowore said.

CAMPAIGN RETURNS TO NIGERIA

Sowore said his campaign would now focus on taking its message directly to Nigerians across different sectors and communities.

The AAC candidate identified equal rights, justice, peace, security and economic development among the issues his campaign intends to emphasize.

He said his political agenda would continue to advocate what he describes as fundamental political, social and economic transformation.

Sowore also argued that the 2027 presidential election would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to determine the future direction of the country's political leadership.

MEETINGS WITH NIGERIANS IN THE DIASPORA

During his stay in the United States, Sowore said he engaged Nigerians living abroad on political developments at home and the role the diaspora could play in Nigeria's democratic process.

Diaspora voting was among the issues he continued to promote.

Sowore said an AAC administration would pursue implementation of voting rights for eligible Nigerians living outside the country if elected.

He also participated in a solidarity march for Palestine in New York during the trip.

According to Sowore, his time in the United States included meetings with supporters, activists and other stakeholders concerning his 2027 agenda.

RETURN AFTER MORE THAN 20 MONTHS AWAY FROM FAMILY

Sowore said the US trip also allowed him to reunite with his family after more than 20 months of separation.

He attributed that prolonged separation to arrests, detention, travel restrictions and the previous seizure of his international passport by Nigerian security agencies.

Those descriptions represent Sowore's account of the circumstances surrounding his travel situation.

Following his return, he was expected to arrive through Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos before proceeding to Abuja.

COURT CASE REMAINS IN BACKGROUND

Sowore's return to campaign activities does not end his ongoing legal proceedings.

He said he would continue attending court in connection with a cybercrime case brought against him by the Department of State Services in 2025.

The case remains separate from his presidential campaign.

Sowore has maintained his political activities while challenging actions taken against him by Nigerian security authorities.

ANOTHER PHASE OF SOWORE'S 2027 CAMPAIGN

Sowore previously contested Nigeria's presidential elections in 2019 and 2023 on the platform of the African Action Congress.

His return places the focus back on his 2027 campaign and the policy proposals he intends to present to voters.

The AAC candidate says he plans to travel across the country and hold direct engagements with different sections of the population.

“I will continue the campaign and engagements with Nigerians as the 2027 election approaches,” he said.

With presidential campaign activities underway, Sowore's return means his campaign now shifts from engagements with Nigerians abroad back to political activities inside the country.

The coming months are expected to provide greater detail about the AAC's policy proposals, campaign strategy and nationwide schedule as Nigeria moves toward the 2027 presidential election.
